The business we now know as Furniturea was started in 1973 by Brian Haddock as small carpentry company in rural western Maine. From a modest, one-room workshop, Brian’s work evolved from carpentry to historic home renovation, cabinetry to millwork, and eventually to furniture.
In 1992, Brian began an 18 year partnership with Maine Cottage Furniture of Yarmouth, ME, serving as their principal manufacturer. He launched Furniturea in 2006 with a collection of furniture inspired by traditional forms of Maine architecture, imagined in a modern style.
Furniturea has an ever-growing collection of modern cottage furniture and accessories. Designs are unique and nuanced, identifiable by both color and form. They’re as whimsical as they are modern, making Furniturea a perfect fit for design-minded customers.
In 2012, Brian’s daughter, Malia, joined Furniturea as sales manager and co-designer, making Furniturea a true family business. Together, Brian and Malia forge ahead with new designs, colors and approaches to creating accessible, modern furniture.
Our iconic Rural Modern aesthetic is uniquely ours, and uniquely Maine. A visit to our newly renovated Portland showroom will make the Furniturea story come to life with abundant color, clean lines, and a clever approach to outfitting your home.
